Researchers at Michigan State University (MSU) have created a brand new, 100% transparent solar cell. The new transparent cell can be utilized anywhere, including on windows and smart phone screens without causing any obstruction to the view or screen.
The newly developed cells have endless potential, as the completely transparent concentrator can turn any window or sheet of glass into a photovoltaic solar cell. "Transparent" solar cells have been developed in the past, but none have been as clear as this, which can be seen in the photos as 100% transparent. The team who developed the cells are confident, according to Richard Lunt who led the research, that the cells can be efficiently deployed across a wide range of buildings, particularly those with large spans of glass.
Not only can the cells be used in a similar way to standard solar panels on buildings, they can also be used in a more innovative way on any kind of mobile device like a phone or tablet.
