At the technical site survey, we will inspect the existing roof to determine its condition.

The existing roofing materials are carefully removed, including tiles,breathable roof-felt membrane, and any damaged components. This step provides a clean and solid foundation for the new roof and solar panels.

New roofing structures, such as rafters and trusses, are installed if necessary. The new breathable roofing-felt membrane is then installed to create a moisture barrier and ensure the roof's longevity. This is mandated by building regulations as it provides a secondary measure in case the roof cladding fails, whilst also ensuring good air-flow into the roof area where the roof timbers need to breathe in order to ensure the longevity of the structure of the roof and protect against damp & rot. (Figure 1)

The trays for the integrated solar panels are installed on the bare roof, prior to any tiling work. This ensures the panels will lie flush when the tiles are on. (Figure 2)

The new roofing materials (tiles or slates) are installed. This step is done meticulously to ensure proper alignment and coverage, creating a durable and weather-resistant roof. (Figure 3)

Solar panels are installed on the trays and connected to the inverter system. This step involves careful wiring to ensure efficient energy conversion and safety. (Figure 4)

Proper flashing is added around roof penetrations (such as chimneys and vents) to prevent water leaks. Adequate ventilation is also installed to maintain airflow and prevent moisture buildup.

The solar system is connected to your home's electrical system, and thorough testing is conducted to ensure everything is working correctly. This includes checking energy output, monitoring systems, and safety features.

A final inspection is carried out to ensure all work meets quality standards and local regulations. The area around your home is cleaned up, and any debris is removed.

A full handover of the system is provided, ensuring you are fully aware of how the system works, and how you can monitor it yourself.

One slight disadvantage is that these panels operate at a higher temperature than traditional on-roof panels, resulting in slightly lower module efficiency and thus, decreased power output. Additionally, retrofitting roof-integrated panels into an existing roof can be more complex and labour-intensive compared to installing on-roof panels. Furthermore, the embedded nature of in-roof panels can lead to some maintenance issues, as reaching the underside of the panels requires a more labour intensive process.
